AMEND Attends SICEM 2024 in Seoul
AMEND CEO, Jo Grey, was honoured to be invited to give a presentation at the 2024 Seoul International Congress of Endocrinology & Metabolism (SICEM) meeting in April, organised by the Korean Endocrine Society. The theme for the conference was ‘One Endo’, and involved delegates and speakers from around the world.
A special interest group symposium, Multiple endocrine neoplasia: bridging perspectives – clinical updates for endocrinologist and patient insights, the first of its kind at the meeting, was held at the start of the conference. The first ever patient to present at a SICEM conference, Jo presented data from AMEND, EMENA and INCA surveys regarding quality of life and unmet needs in these rare neuroendocrine syndromes, along with her personal story of diagnosis and life with MEN2A.
‘We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants who found your expertise both informative and engaging.
Your ability to articulate complex ideas with clarity and enthusiasm truly captivated the audience.’
The session also included an Introduction to MEN, The epidemiology and clinical outcomes of MEN in South Korea, Dr Mark Lewis, an oncologist and MEN1 patient from the USA talking about The fortune and folly of self-diagnosis, and concluded with a father and son with MEN1 from South Korea sharing their experiences.
This was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the holistic needs of patients in a country where a patient group currently doesn’t exist, and the presentation was well received.
AMEND thanks the organisers for the invitation and for enabling us to attend this fabulous conference in the amazing city of Seoul. A special thank you is extended to Dr Yumie Rhee for her kindness in including patients in this session.
