Get Ready for Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month!
AMEND provides information resources and support services to people affected by both sporadic (non-genetic) and inherited (genetic) medullary thyroid cancer (MTC).
Throughout September, which is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, we want to make some noise to highlight medullary thyroid cancer, it’s diagnosis, treatment and life with MTC. The scar left by total thyroidectomy is often referred to as a ‘Second Smile’ and so we’re running with that theme this year.
You can help by:
- sharing a selfie of yourself with one of our downloadable posters below (please upload your selfie via this link during September), and we’ll create a montage for social media,
- sharing a short video, to help create a longer collaborative video, by filming yourself saying,

- ‘I have/had medullary thyroid cancer and I am a member of the 2nd Smile Club’.
- Any children who had prophylactic surgery who wish to participate could say,
- ‘I had surgery to stop me getting medullary thyroid cancer and I’m in the 2nd Smile Club’.

- sharing your story of diagnosis, treatment and life with MTC together with a couple of your favourite photos. Those newly diagnosed with MTC find these very useful and writing your story can be very cathartic (please upload your story and photos via this link). Stories are added to our website to help inform others.
- follow AMEND on social media and share our posts during September and add our frame to your Facebook Profile Pic (see below)!
