British Association of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS) Conference

This was Jo’s last attendance at a BAETS meeting ahead of her imminent retirement. It was lovely to be able to meet with old faces and new in the wonderful venue in Krakow, Poland. As usual, AMEND hosted a stand to highlight our work and resources for patients. Although little seems to change on the surgical front over the years, one quote stood out at this event. Mr Neil Sharma, Consultant Head and Neck Surgeon at the University Hospitals Birmingham, stated at the end of his talk with the session on ‘Current controversies in the management of primary hyperparathyroidism’, that ‘guidelines suggest who to operate on, but not who will benefit.’
