I was diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2A (MEN2A) in 2006 after my mother discovered she had the gene following years of health challenges. My own experiences with the condition began when I underwent a total thyroidectomy and the removal of three parathyroid glands. As a parent of two children who also carry the gene, this journey is a family affair; one of my children had a thyroidectomy at the age of 3, and the other is scheduled to have surgery in the upcoming years.
Professionally, I work as a Research Midwife in East London, where I am deeply committed to supporting patients and families throughout their experiences.
I felt it was right to become a Peer Support Volunteer for AMEND because MEN2A is an integral part of my family’s life. I believe it’s vital to connect with and support other families who have received similar diagnoses. Inspired by Helen Keller’s words, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’’
In my personal life, I enjoy knitting, participating in Zumba classes, and traveling, all of which bring joy and balance to my life.
