AMEND AGM & Information Day Success
Over 40 attendees (both members and non-members) gathered at The Melting Pot in the centre of Edinburgh in Scotland for AMEND's Annual General Meeting and Information Day on Saturday 10th May. This is the biggest attendance to date; the 'weekend away' option being popular with those who travelled some distance, and the location being equally popular with those who live in Scotland and the far North and who thus haven't been able to attend previous events in the South. Dr Steve Ball from Newcastle University Hospital hosted an excellent Ask the Doctor session, Dr Veronica Moyes from St Bartholomew's in London and AMEND's 2008 Young Investigator Award Winner gave a presentation on her research into the effectiveness of Cinacalcet in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism in MEN1, and attendees had generous time to socialise and peruse the information table. Results of AMEND's patient survey that was done in March were shared, as well as the charity's plans for the future. New for 2008 were the AMEND Kid's Club which entertained the children with activities making the event more accessible for families, and an evening dinner and Ghost & Gore walking tour of Edinburgh which provided many a good belly-laugh! The 2009 AGM will again be in May, in Exeter, Devon. |
